Our Swim Curriculum & Progression

Our Swim Curriculum & Progression

Every Happy Fish swimmer follows a clear, gentle journey — from first splashes to confident strokes — guided by a friendly crew of sea-creature buddies and coaches who put your child first.

The 6-Stage Learn-to-Swim Mastery

Every skill we teach maps to one of these six stages. It’s how our coaches know exactly what your child is working towards — not just what to do, but why.

1

Water Familiarisation

Getting happy and confident in the water — safe entries, kicks and first splashes.

2

Breath Control

Learning to blow bubbles, hold and control breath through gentle conditioning.

3

Submersion

Confidently going under and gliding beneath the surface without a fuss.

4

Free Floating

Floating and balancing independently, on the front and the back.

5

Propulsion

Moving through the water — kicking and stroking to cover real distances.

6

Independence & Changing Breath

Swimming unaided with rhythmic breathing — real, complete strokes.

The 5-Steps Happy Fish Method

This is how we introduce every new skill — a gentle, repeatable sequence that builds confidence step by step.

Explanation

We tell your child what we’re about to do, in playful, simple words.

Demonstration

We show them — coach or parent models the skill first.

Land Drill

We practise the movement on land or the pool edge, where it feels safe.

Practice with Support

They try it with a supportive hold or float.

Practice Independently

They do it on their own — and we celebrate!

It’s not a one-way ladder. If a child struggles or gets upset, our coaches step back a stage — re-demonstrate, redo the land drill — rather than push forward. Protecting your child’s trust always comes first, and repeating a level is completely normal.

Follow the Learning Journey

This is the very map we hang up at every Happy Fish branch. Each sea-creature buddy is circled — tap one to meet them and see what your child learns at that level.
